About the artist
I paint because I can't not paint.
As a former offshore sailor and ocean rower, I draw on my experience of life at sea to bring the elements of the ocean in to your home. Whether it's a distant horizon or a fearsome storm. You can feel the breeze on your face and taste the salt in the air when you view my work
My work echoes life on the ocean. Salt, fresh air, changing horizons, storms, sunsets, yachts and lighthouses. The ocean has many moods, the ever changing weather creates a cacophony of different backdrops. Each painting receives layers of paint, like the layering of isobars on a chart, the images slowly emerge from the canvas, revealing their wind strength, their temperature, their mood. They come from the scenes which surrounded me when I lived offshore.
The ocean inspires me, the salt, the fresh air, the different moods it goes through from glass calm to raging waves, it challenges the physical and mental resilience of anyone who dares to exist on her, and that is why I love her. Unpredictable, ferocious, beautiful, peaceful, Mother Nature offers it all, and my work reflects this.
